The Washer/Dryer

Written by my friend Dong Wood

I was moving into a new apartment in just over a month and I had to get rid of my washer and dryer. My new place came with a stacked unit, and my system now was an old school side by side. I had already posted notices on the bulletin boards in the office of my current building to no avail. I wasn’t really sure what to do but then my neighbor suggested I Getclearwirelessinternet which would be two fold: I could use the internet to find a buyer for my washer dryer and I’d also have a mobile internet connection I could take with me to the next property. Great idea! I immediately listed my washer dryer on Craigslist and within two days, someone had emailed wanting to buy it. They even had a truck to come get it! I was less worried about what to do with my laundry and now had more time to worry about packing and getting everything right for the big move. I couldn’t wait to get into my new place!

Dream Retirement Home

I saw a picture from one of my friend’s albums of Table Rock Lake.  I was so in awe about the whole thing, how peaceful and beautiful it was.  I really couldn’t help rave about it and I even showed it to my husband when he walked through the door.  He also said it was breath-taking.

I searched for more information about it and found out that the lake winds down from Branson, Missouri to Eureka Springs in Arkansas.  As soon as I found out, I hurriedly checked for Branson real estate listings just to get an idea of how much it would cost to live near the lake.  I so wish it could be our future retirement home.

Makeover Make-Up

Have you ever tried organic make up?  There’s such a big hype nowadays about using organic products that sometimes I’m tempted to buy organic make up as well.  Some of my friends at work have tried it and said the products somehow feel better on their skin and their skin has lesser irritation.

Don’t get me wrong, I really am not one to use make up but because I need to be presentable at work, I need to put even just a little make up on to make myself look professional.  If all these claims from my friends are true, maybe I can invest in some organic products too so I can lessen the stress on my skin and hopefully delay any, if at all, side effects of using old types of make ups.

Running a Business

I know a couple of friends who have set up their business as soon as the recession hit. I’m happy that some of them are still doing okay and are comfortable running their own show.

One thing they always say that was hard for them was setting up their small business phone system. They didn’t realize that it was a bit complicated for them but now that they know the ropes, they actually give out some sound advice on how to approach this problem in case I decide to open my own little business. I still have no idea what to go into but I know I’ll figure it out soon.

Reward Cards

I overheard this discussion a couple of days back and thought it needed a bit more pondering. It actually made sense. It was about applying for new credit cards, or what they referred to as a reward card.

I know almost everyone owns a credit card, sometimes even more that what one can handle, but these people actually made sense. They were talking about these new credit cards that come out in the market offering rewards for specific things. There is this one card with huge savings and rebates for every gasoline charge – a great deal for anyone who is regularly driving a vehicle. Then there are cards with great discounts or rewards for every purchase of certain medications. I mean, I think you can actually save big on these “rewards” if you think about it, as long as you know how to control the use of your card/s.

Here Comes the Sun

With the coming of the sun in spring, it’s time to get my prada sunglasses out. Well, that is if this weather continues to improve. I know it will, I just didn’t think the winter and the icy feeling of winter will last this long.

I’m so sure even my cat will love having the sun out most of the day and to have cool, not icy, nights. Finally this winter spell will end and we can breathe in the scent of flowers in warm, breezy air. It’s about time Mother Nature finally gives us some sun. Snow is finally over!

Special Gifts for Special People

So it’s mid-April and Easter is almost here. Then there is Mother’s Day, then Father’s Day and finally, Grandparent’s Day.

I usually don’t have much problem in finding a mother’s or father’s gift. It’ so commercialized that there are tons of options available. But what take a lot of time for me to buy are those for my grandparents. I could give some fishing gear for my grandfather but this year, I’m thinking of buying a personalized grandmother gift. I want it to be extra special with maybe a special message from me. Something she can look at over and over to remember how much we thank and love her.

A Girl's Best Friend

They say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. If so, I would love to have lots and lots of best friends, but we all know how expensive diamonds are.

Good thing moissanite jewelry was introduced back in the 90s and is now gaining popularity in the market. Most people say it’s really hard to spot the difference and between the two so I would settle for moissanite over diamonds because you get the same result and save some bucks while at it. I just hope that someone gives me a pair or two soon. Even though they’re less pricey, I’d still prefer to receive them as gifts than buy them for myself.

Hello Spring

Finally the weather is starting to clear up. Hopefully we get good sun in the coming days and it's the perfect time clean out my old mower. How I wish I had one of those modern zero turn tractors but until the old one is still working, I have no way of convincing myself to buy a new one.

Anyway, I'm glad to feel a bit of heat outside now even if just for a moment. Soon Smokey and Tiger can enjoy their freedom outside again and we will both be glad to see some flowers and sun real soon.

Gift for a Coach

What do you give a coach who’s retiring? One of my friends at work is asking for ideas for coaches gifts that she can give to her son’s coach. Her son has been playing for the coach for years now and she wants her gift to be something special.

I suggested personalizing a gift. I found a site online where you can print pictures, school logos, or names on balls, baseball bats or even hockey sticks. She can include a picture of the team and a short message for the coach. All the parents can pitch in so they can share the cost for the gift and the children can present the gift on the coach’s farewell party.

Stocking up on Water

I love spring…and soon it will be summer. As early as now I’m stocking up on water in my steel drum. Because of our weird snow, I want to make sure I have enough water supplies for my lawn and plants in case it our summer will be extremely hot. I know it’s too early but I just want to be prepared for the worse case because in summer, the restriction on watering the lawn will be imposed again.

How about in your area? Do you have restrictions on watering the lawn too during summer? Are you preparing for it ahead of time as I am?

Better Economy

Now that our economy is getting better, I’m happy to see that there are more jobs available to apply for. Although most jobs require specific skills, at least people who were laid off or retrenched can apply again. A lot of those I know that were laid off tried to start their own small businesses but still, it’s different if you have a steady income from a stable job.

I’m happy things are turning out well for us. Many may not agree to what steps are taken by the government or businesses but since all we want is to have a better country, let’s just keep moving forward for our future.
